“Photography is a construction you create within a very small space, and there you must build a story.” Jordi Socías, 2024.

Curated by Lucía Laín, the exhibition Jordi Socías. Al final de la escapada offers a journey through the life and work of the Barcelona-born photographer Jordi Socías, where scenic compositions alternate with decisive historical moments from the 1970s to the present. A lover of French Surrealism, Italian Neorealism, and the Nouvelle Vague, the artist develops—through a logical sequence that follows the structure of a magazine—his particular way of seeing. Photographs of notable twentieth-century figures, some previously unpublished, are interwoven with snapshots of anonymous people in the streets, transforming them into true staged scenes that perfectly embody Socías’s cosmopolitan vision.

With a circular floor plan and located in a former water reservoir of the Canal, the Canal de Isabel II Hall has established itself as a national and international reference space in the field of photography. In this particular context, the lighting becomes part of a unified narrative that connects both the artworks on display and the architecture of the gallery itself, generating a visual harmony that makes them appear as though they were created for one another.
