2023

This is the first monographic exhibition of the Cuban artist Fabelo in Madrid, held at the Centro Cultural Conde Duque. The exhibition is a dialogue between selected works by the renowned artist and Goya’s engravings from the series Los Caprichos and The Disasters of War.

“In an era in which lightness, artifices, and easy, narcotic entertainment take over the media, publishing houses, galleries, and all the mechanisms of brutalization we endure, Roberto Fabelo’s proposal resonates like a slap in the face.” Leonardo Padura on Fabelo’s work, 2012.

For this exhibition, a lighting design is proposed that transforms the visitor’s experience. By focusing the works displayed on the walls, framed by the gallery’s arches, and keeping the room at low lighting levels, a theatrical and dramatic atmosphere is created. This interaction between the elements of the exhibition and the atmosphere of the gallery allows visitors to immerse themselves in the creative world of both artists, creating a deep and emotional connection with their works.
