Installation of Cultural Assets

Tabacalera Promoción de Arte – Subdirección General de Museos Estatales, Ministerio de Cultura (Madrid)

2019

A life journey through the artisanal-artistic work of the sculptor Francisco Leiro from the 1990s to the present day.

The large piece “ El Leviatán” opened this exhibition in which the historic Tabacalera building merged with the resounding presence of the work of Francisco Leiro. Throughout 7 chapters, or steps, the spectator was able to enter into a journey full of magical, strange and familiar beings with a bucolic air that told the life story of the Galician artist over three decades between Cambados, Madrid, Mexico and New York. These beings of a cyclopean nature were made from local materials, some of which were made from living materials such as old beams, thus creating works that were as sculptural as they were narrative. For the occasion, the artist created the ensemble “Los Mamelucos”.

Work carried out: Production and assembly of museography and lighting. Handling and Installation of Cultural Assets.

Photographs: José Luis de la Parra.
