Renovation of the lighting of the 11M Memorial.

Ornamental

Ayuntamiento de Madrid

2020

As part of the restoration of the monument to repair leaks and enable the correct reading of the graphics inside the monument, it was decided to renovate the lighting. This consisted of a series of high-power traditional technology units that did not provide a proper lighting solution due to the optics of the units themselves and the loss of luminous flux, given that the building is made of glass bricks.

Apart from significantly reducing the power used, a perimeter metal ring was installed under the glass roof as a reflective surface which, in addition to reducing lighting pollution, returns much of the luminous flux towards the inside, thus achieving a uniform value throughout the lateral development of the cylindrical shape and a correct perception of the interior shape that contains the graphics. The design of the dynamic lighting sequences was carried out by María Gil de Montes and the programming by César Linares.

Work carried out: Project and technical direction of the exterior lighting.
