Ayuntamiento de Ciudad Rodrigo

2019

2019 was the 75th anniversary of the declaration of the walled enclosure as Historic-Artistic Heritage. In this context, the City Council, which had successfully implemented a public lighting renovation plan, decided to commission us to draw up a Master Plan focusing on ornamental lighting with the aim of improving the nocturnal landscape of the historic city.

The virtual landscape we designed was based on criteria that broke away from the traditional methodology in this field. Sustainability, properly understood, consists of reconciling respect for the night sky with the enhancement of the architecture, squares and sites of the city. It also consists of providing a closer view for night-time passers-by rather than attracting the attention of drivers on more or less distant motorways. In short, it is a plan that orders, hierarchises and also limits the use of energy for recreational purposes.
The project for the Plaza del Conde has been carried out. The lighting was planned according to criteria related to the architecture and the life of the people who live in the city, in addition to the enhancement of the buildings surrounding the square (palace of the Counts of Alba de Yeltes and the Municipal House of Culture) and their architectural elements.
Warm light and reduced lighting levels were used to contrast with the accent on architectural elements by means of cut-off spotlights, which make it possible to light them with precision, and with a difference in colour temperature. As in all Intervento projects, the focus has been on the efficiency of the installation, control of lighting pollution and respect for the monuments by using reversible and non-aggressive techniques.
